Data hall

Meter the feed, hold the row

A cabinet in a data hall is booked against one feed, so the number that matters is that feed's current and energy. Metering accuracy is +/-1% on current, voltage and power, and the energy register is a 1 grade billing-grade meter at Scale 0.1 kWh.

What gets measured

Every figure the row is booked against

A row meter shows what the row drew. A cabinet feed meter shows what that cabinet is billed for, and that is the figure a capacity plan and a customer invoice both need. The unit reports current, voltage, active power and accumulated energy on each reporting line, plus ambient temperature at the top of the cabinet.

  • Reading that sizes the feed current per feed
  • Reading that proves headroom phase balance
  • Reading that supports a chargeback energy per line
Readings leave the unit over 10/100M Ethernet with SNMP and Modbus, or over RS485, so the data hall DCIM polls the same register set every other cabinet answers on.

Parameters the row is checked against

Data hall line sheet

These are the figures a data hall line is signed off on. Each row is a setting on the unit, not a marketing range: the meter window, the current, the conductor and the outlet rank.

The meter window is wider than the feed. That is deliberate: a 90V floor and a 350V ceiling cover the nominal supplies a data hall row is built on, and the register keeps counting through the sag that a transfer would otherwise hide.

Ambient sensing is fitted to the reporting unit, not bought as a separate probe. Temperature and humidity sit on the same register map as current and energy, so one poll answers both.

Register grid

Readings that are actually polled

Each cell below is one register group on the reporting line. The scale is the resolution the meter reports at, taken from the specification sheet rather than rounded for presentation.

  • Energy total 0.1 kWh Billing-grade register, 1 grade. Scale is the smallest step the total reports.
  • Current per feed 0.1A +/-1% + 1 digit, per reporting line. This is the figure a capacity plan uses.
  • Voltage 1V 90V ~ 350V meter window, so a sag stays on the register instead of dropping out.
  • Active power +/-1% Power is derived from the same sampling as current and voltage, not from a second meter.
  • Ambient at the top -30°C ~ 100°C 1°C resolution, humidity 1% ~ 99%. One sensor answers both readings.
  • Event log 20,000 Entries held by the built-in RTC through power loss, so an audit trail survives a transfer.
Data path: 10/100M Ethernet with SNMP and Modbus, one RS485 port, and an embedded web server that renders the same register set in a browser.

Send the rack

Feed current, outlet mix, metering depth

Three lines about the cabinet are enough to size the feed: current per feed, the outlet combination and whether billing-grade energy is needed per line. The reply is a configured quotation with a per-line specification sheet, in English.
